ARLINGTON, VA - The Aluminum Association President Steve Larkin applauded the passage of The American Clean Energy and Security Act:

We congratulate the House of Representatives on an important first step in protecting our environment and potentially creating thousands of new green jobs. We look forward to working with members of the Senate on this important issue to further enhance the language of this bill, particularly as it pertains to energy intensive industries like ours.

Over the last several decades, the U.S. aluminum industry has had a positive track record in this cause by reducing greenhouse gas emissions not only through increased efficiency in manufacturing, but by also increasing aluminum can recycling, constructing more energy efficient, sustainable buildings, and reducing emissions through light-weighting and more efficient, less emitting automobiles.

A final bill that would recognize the positive contributions to the environment, consumers and the 142,000 employees of the aluminum industry would be a victory for all of us.

The Aluminum Association, based in Arlington, VA, works globally to aggressively promote aluminum as the most sustainable and recyclable automotive, packaging and construction material in today’s market. The Association represents U.S. and foreign-based primary producers of aluminum, aluminum recyclers and producers of fabricated products, as well as industry suppliers. Member companies operate more than 200 plants in the United States, with many conducting business worldwide.
