Strategic Management of Lean

The biggest mistake made by companies considering the use of lean manufacturing is to jump into the water without a strategically focused plan. That might be OK for an Olympic swimmer, but most organizations end up doing the dog paddle and are eventually worn out and decide it is just too difficult to achieve—ignoring or aborting the initiative. In some cases, they may drown. This results in wasted time, energy, credibility and money for an organization.
Many a lean transformation has failed because management failed to establish a strategic plan for implementing it. So why do these companies attempt to use lean as a strategic improvement methodology? It could be that a major customer has requested, or even demanded, that lean be used as a condition of continuing business. Or, it may be that the company has been searching for a methodology to reduce costs and improve the bottom line. Nikon Instruments Inc. Appoints New President and CEO
MELVILLE, NY, April 17, 2007 – Nikon Instruments Inc. announces the appointment of Yoshinobu Ishikawa to president and Chief Executive Officer. Ishikawa will be in charge of all Nikon Instruments divisions in North America and Latin America.
Ishikawa most recently served as President and CEO of Nikon Instruments Europe and has also held key management positions at Nikon Instruments UK, as well as the International Sales Department in Japan. “Mr. Ishikawa’s experience in global instruments management has proven to be a valuable resource and he comes to Nikon Instruments Inc. at a time of significant growth opportunities,” says Toshiyuki Masai, outgoing president.

CyberMetrics Corporation Acquires American Quality Systems Inc.
SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- CyberMetrics Corp., a privately-held software and solutions provider founded in 1988, has acquired American Quality Systems Inc.(AQS), a provider of low–to–mid priced calibration, and maintenance management software products.
The acquisition of American Quality Systems is another in a series of events chronicling a continued period of growth for CyberMetrics Corp.
In February, CyberMetrics announced it had posted record company revenues during the fiscal year ending December 31, 2006. Sales of CyberMetrics’ flagship product, GAGEtrak, increased 25% and the company’s overall operating margin rose by nine percentage points during that timeframe.
CyberMetrics would not rule out additional acquisitions and/or strategic alliances. The acquisition of AQS provides additional customer base for CyberMetrics to market its existing calibration, maintenance, and supplier management software solutions. www.cybermetrics.com |
