Precision Group Focuses on CMMs

The American Society for Precision Engineering is focusing on the developments in the technology of coordinate measuring machines at its upcoming conference.

CHARLOTTE, NC—The American Society for Precision Engineering (ASPE) is focusing on the developments in the technology of coordinate measuring machines at its upcoming conference June 25 to 26.

This meeting will focus on such topics as the development of “probing” techniques that acquire data much more rapidly and densely. These techniques include vision, with a spectrum of illumination techniques, optical triangulation, mechanical scanning, and other emerging techniques ranging from tomography to atomic force microscopy.

Speakers at the event include two metrology experts from Mitutoyo America Corp. (Aurora, IL). Dr. James Salsbury and Dr. Paul Thomas of Mitutoyo will give presentations. Thomas, the chief architect behind Mitutoyo’s CMM software solutions for handling measurements of geometric and dimensional tolerances (GD&T), will present some of the critical issues surrounding the testing of CMM algorithms. Salsbury will discuss the latest developments in CMM performance testing standardization and the relationship with some of the calibration, uncertainty, and traceability problems with which CMM users are currently struggling.

The purpose of this field guide is to assist organizations, step by step, in implementing a quality management system (QMS) in conformance with ISO 9001:2008, whether from scratch or by transitioning from ISO 9001:2000. It examines each sub-clause of Sections 4–8 of ISO 9001:2008, which contain the requirements, and gives a list of the documentation/documents required, internal audit questions, a summary of management’s responsibilities, and a flowchart of the steps that need to be undertaken to satisfy the requirements.
