CHARLOTTE, NC-Responding to industry requests, the B46 committee has created a simplified "Executive Summary" surface metrology guideline to be included in future standards. The executive summary establishes the key items necessary when performing surface texture measurements. Visit http://cstools.asme.org/csconnect/pdf/CommitteeFiles/18009.pdf.

The ASME B46 committee on surface texture has convened a project team headed by Toby Bergstrom, associate director of the WPI Surface Metrology Lab, to address surface texture gage capability analysis. All those interested in participating are encouraged to join the ASME project team pool and submit ideas via the Internet, phone or attend meetings.

The next B46 main Committee meeting will be held June 9, 2006 in the Detroit area. Guest speaker Fred Becker of Thielenhaus Microfinish will review microfinishing techniques, surface specification and future texture specification requirements.

The B46 main committee consists of about 30 members from industry, academia and government. Project team membership is available to all interested parties and may eventually lead to main committee membership. Guests are always invited to attend the meetings and presentations.
