Cleveland-The Precision Metalforming Association Educational Foundation (PMAEF) awarded a total of $34,370 in grants to six programs created to enhance the U.S. metalforming workforce.

PMAEF congratulates all of the grant recipients from this cycle.

Following is a summary of the

grants awarded:

-$10,000 to the Connecticut Business & Industry Association's Manufacture Your Future Careers Exposition in Hartford, CT, on May 16 to 17, 2006. The event was designed to expose 3,000 middle and high school students to advanced manufacturing by displaying technology such as CAD/CAM, coil slitting, metal finishing and CNC programming.

-$5,000 to the Jane Addams Resource Corp. to supplement its funding for the Manufacturing Technology Summer Camp in July 2006 as part of the Education-to-Careers Program. The summer camp exposes 14 applicants to manufacturing technology in a concentrated curriculum.

-$6,370 to East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL, to provide equipment for its machine-tool program. The funding will support the replacement of four vertical mills with four new vertical mills equipped with digital readout and X-axis servos.

-$10,000 to the National Institute for Metalworking Skills Assessment Inc. to assist in the management of the precision machining technology competition as part of SkillsUSA. The competition reflects national industry standards for entry-level machinists, bringing state champions together to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals.

-$3,000 to the development of a Precision Metalforming Association/Science Olympiad partnership in an effort to link Science Olympiad with careers in science and technology, specifically manufacturing design and engineering.

The deadline to submit applications for the next grant cycle is October 1, 2006. PMAEF accepts requests for funding from organizations whose initiatives, programs and services promote, enhance and support the development of a metalforming workforce in the United States.
