LEUVEN, BELGIUM-Metrology solutions provider Metris announces that its Italian C3 coordinate measuring machine (CMM) operations has been divested but will continue as an independent organization. Metris will continue to source its aluminum-based C3 range of CMMs from its spin-off, Coord3 Industries S.r.l., which also becomes the exclusive reseller of Metris products for Italy.

Angelo Muscarella, former CEO of Coord3 and sales director of Metris Italy, takes over the Bruzolo operations from Metris to create an independent CMM company. This new company includes both the development and manufacturing of C3 CMMs and the Italian sales and customer service team, totaling about 70 employees.

“The divestment of the Italian operations fits our strategy to variablize fixed operational costs to deal with declining demand due to the global recession,” comments Bart Van Coppenolle, president and CEO of Metris. “At the same time it has no impact on our product portfolio, as Metris will continue to source its aluminum-based C3 range from its spin-off. As such, we continue to sell aluminum-based C3 CMMs next to the ceramic LK CMMs as part of our continued commitment to deliver total CMM-based metrology solutions.”

“Being part of the Metris company for almost two years has had a positive impact on the Italian CMM operations, as we optimized our internal processes and provided the sales force a cutting-edge competitive product portfolio,” says Angelo Muscarella, new CEO of the spin-off Coord3 Industries S.r.l., “With the integration of laser scanning on our CMMs and Metris handheld metrology solutions, such as K-Scan MMD and MCA articulated arms with ModelMaker scanners, we are ready for the optical revolution.”
