The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO John Engler issued the following statement today on the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform’s final report:

“The NAM welcomes the thoughtful recommendations put forth by the President’s fiscal commission. The nation needs sensible fiscal policies that will lead to durable economic growth and job creation. The commission‘s report provides a good starting point for developing policies that will strengthen our economy and overall competitiveness.

We fully agree that America’s long-term fiscal gap is unsustainable and tough choices must be made. We look forward to working with policy makers on the challenges ahead, tackling issues such as fundamental tax and entitlement reform without undermining U.S. competitiveness and economic growth.

Manufacturers stand ready to work with policymakers on a positive way forward that enhances America’s global competitiveness, puts Americans back to work and sets the country on a course for economic growth. As outlined in the NAM’s Manufacturing Strategy for Jobs and a Competitive America (www.nam.org/strategy.), manufacturers believe that America needs to be the best place to headquarter a business, to perform the bulk of companies’ R&D and to manufacture, both for the domestic market and for export. Pro-growth, pro-competitiveness fiscal policies will help us achieve this goal.”
