ROCHESTER, NY-The Kodak family is deeply saddened by the loss of colleague Stephen R. Mazur, P.E., who was killed in an auto accident on Friday, January 19, while traveling on business in Pittsburgh. An integral part of the sales force at Kodak Nondestructive Testing (NDT) group, Mazur was promoted last year to area manager for the Midwest region.
Because the NDT industry is a close-knit network of professionals, Mazur had many friends and associates across the country. He was a bright, vibrant personality who will be missed by his colleagues at Kodak.
Mazur joined Kodak’s Nondestructive Testing group in May 2005. He served as Midwest area manager, overseeing all sales activities in that region for Kodak NDT products.
Before joining Kodak, Mazur served as technical sales and project manager with Quality Inspection Services Inc. (Buffalo, NY), where he developed markets for new technologies, including electro-magnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) ultrasonics and computed radiography. Mazur also served in technical and managerial positions at JMS Engineering (Grand Island, NY) and MQS/Cooperheat Inc. (Buffalo, NY).
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mazur attained the rank of captain and served at Fort Dix, NJ, as nuclear/chemical surety officer, regional NBC school commandant and installation chemical officer.
Never too busy to share his thoughts and expertise, Mazur authored and published papers on various aspects of computed radiography. In 2006, he was a key member of the Leonardo Project team-a group of scientists and NDT specialists who traveled to Montana to use digital radiography to uncover groundbreaking scientific insights about Leonardo, the world’s best-preserved dinosaur.
Mazur was a graduate of West Virginia University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He was also a licensed engineer in New York State and was certified with American Petroleum Institute. At the time of his death, Mazur was 49 years old and lived in Lewiston, NY, with his wife, Jill Gleason-Mazur, and daughters, Amy and Emily Mazur.
