Head of NDT for Airbus UK joins South West School of NDT

The South West School of NDT has announced the addition of John Hewitt, the former Head of NDT for Airbus UK, to its NDT Level 3 Consultancy team.

With 50 years' experience in the aircraft industry and 34 years in NDT, John is known to many, from the primes to the supplier chain in both the UK and abroad. Starting his NDT career in British Aerospace, he moved to Messier-Dowty Ltd and eventually became Head of NDT before leaving and joining Airbus. He spent time in Toulouse before returning to Filton and becoming the Airbus UK Nominated NDT Level 3 and Head of NDT.

In addition to serving on the UK National Aerospace NDT Board, he was co-chair of the SAE Commercial Aircraft Composite Repair Committee, Inspection Task Group.

Hewitt holds PCN Level 2 and 3 and EN 4179 Level 3 certification in the UT, ET, MT and PT methods.

Colin Thomas, director of engineering services for the MTD Group, is delighted to welcome Hewitt to the team. He commented that his extensive experience will help to consolidate the rapidly expanding Level 3 Consultancy Services group, not only with regard to the application of NDT in the aerospace sector generally, but additionally with the challenges of inspecting advanced composite materials.
