For 20 years, I served in the United States Navy Nuclear SUBSAFE program. Fifteen of those years I spent as a Level III ASNT TC-1A Examiner in the visual, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and radiography testing methods.
Bill Strauss spent many of his summers working in his father's machine shop in Brooklyn during the 1970s. He saw computer numerical controls adopted into the shop, which made operations easier, but also eliminated his job of moving the big, clunky patterns.
Strauss says that is both the good and bad news to productivity growth-companies are able to produce more, but with less people.

Quality NDT Conference 2010 Call for Papers
BENSENVILLE, IL-Proposals are being accepted for the 3rd annual Quality NDT Conference, to be held March 22 to 25, 2010, at Marriot World Center, Orlando. The conference seeks presentations and hands-on professional learning workshops about technology advancements, applications case studies and operational management concepts. Abstracts must be submitted by October 16, 2009. Submitters will be notified of acceptance by November 30, 2009, and completed presentations must be submitted by February 8, 2010. more
ASM Materials Camp Celebrates 10 Years
MATERIALS PARK, OH - A decade ago, ASM International and the ASM Materials Education Foundation introduced a bold new program to excite young people in materials science and engineering.
