Imaging Systems Enhance Security at Boca Raton Regional Hospital

A built-in radio frequency reader automatically provides authorized employees with system access.

ROCHESTER, NY-- Boca Raton Regional Hospital (Boca Raton, FL) purchased and installed two Carestream DRX-Revolution Mobile X-ray Systems as part of its conversion to direct digital imaging systems that make X-ray images available in seconds.

Equipping physicians to see images in less than five seconds can help enhance patient care at the 360-bed hospital. Mobile imaging systems had been used previously to perform X-ray exams at the patient's bedside, but the DRX-Revolution systems offer improved image quality and immediate viewing capabilities that allow the clinical staff to enhance the speed of patient care.

"With the DRX-Revolution, our physicians can view high-quality X-ray images immediately on the monitor," says Gail McNamara, director of the hospital's Imaging Services department."This equips them to make urgent treatment decisions and verify the position of tubes and lines needed by many ER, ICU and surgical patients. This innovative mobile system also helps our technologists capture better images with less movement of patients--and it's much easier to drive throughout the hospital."

McNamara adds that the DRX-Revolution units enable technologists to log into the system by passing their badges in front of the system's built-in radio-frequency reader. "Radio-frequency technology is much faster than the manual process of logging in with names and passwords. It also helps us meet government regulations regarding the privacy of patient records," she said. "Now I have a record of which technologist conducted each exam and what files each technologist viewed."

Both DRX-Revolution systems capture images in the ER, ICU, and surgical suites and conduct inpatient exams throughout the hospital. The hospital plans to purchase a third digital radiography portable imaging system to satisfy additional imaging needs created by the expansion of its ER and the creation of a new neuroscience center that includes dedicated operating rooms, a neurology ICU and intraoperative MRI.
