Minitab Quality Improvement Experts to Present at Lean and Six Sigma World Conference

February 12, 2013

STATE COLLEGE, PA--In an age where Lean Six Sigma and other data-driven quality improvement methods save companies millions, practitioners have become acutely aware of the need to keep their Lean Six Sigma and statistical skills sharp.

To help Lean and Six Sigma practitioners attending the Lean and Six Sigma World Conference in San Diego, CA, learn new skills and refresh their knowledge, two sessions will highlight Lean and Six Sigma tools, as well as examples and case studies that feature the use of Minitab Statistical Software for the analysis of quality improvement data.

Lou Johnson, senior Minitab technical trainer and mentor, will present "Design of Experiments for Defect Reduction" on Thursday, February 21, at 8:45 a.m. at the Hilton San Diego Resort.

Johnson’s presentation will discuss how Lean Six Sigma leaders can successfully design experiments to reduce process defects. He will use real-world case studies to illustrate his approach to designing effective experiments.

“When designing an experiment to fix a problem, it’s important to have a reasonable estimate as to what issue is most likely the cause,” says Johnson. “This insight will help you to design the experiment accordingly.”

Another session, "A Perfect 10! Or is it? Evaluating Non-Standard Measurement Systems Using the Olympics," will begin at 8:10 a.m., also at the Hilton San Diego Resort.

The session will be presented by Joel Smith, Minitab statistician and senior business development representative, to provide Lean Six Sigma professionals with examples of how to conduct a measurement systems analysis and then how to explain the analysis and results to a quality improvement team.

“I’ll use judging results from Olympic events to show how to evaluate measurement systems more robustly using general linear models in place of Gage R&R,” says Smith. “Of course, we’ll also discuss if the statistics say whether or not the Olympic judges are doing a good job.”

Minitab representatives will be on hand throughout the conference, as well as during the event’s expo, February 20-21 at the Hilton San Diego Resort. Attendees are invited to visit the Minitab booth to learn more about the company’s products and services, which also include training, statistical mentoring and free technical support.

Conference participants can connect with Minitab during the event and keep up-to-date with conference happenings on Twitter by tagging conference tweets with #minitab40.
