AKRON, OH – Smithers Quality Assessments (SQA), a Smithers Group company, has received accreditation from ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSAS) 18001, ANSI/AIHA Z10, and CSA Z1000.

As employers strive for safer workplaces, SQA will work with them to ensure that our clients build and maintain occupational health and safety systems that will help manage risk, increase awareness and employee involvement, and positively impact their company’s reputations in their respective industries.

“Health and Safety Management systems are at the forefront of concern for many of our customers” said Jeanette Preston, president of SQA.  “As a responsible business partner, we must help our customers eliminate risks to all stakeholders in their respective organization and promote a safe, healthy, and productive workplace.”

Dave Schlarb, director of quality at SQA client Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc., said,  “Over the past two years, Momentive’s Forest Products Division has lowered our injury and illness rate by over 60%, and we have a goal of reducing our rate by another 10% in 2013.  We attribute this improvement to the sound and disciplined Safety Management Systems that we have put in place in order to meet the requirements of the OHSAS 18001 certification.  Working with SQA as our registrar continues to help us identify opportunities to improve our Safety Management Systems and meet our improvement target.”

ISO 18001, Z10 and CSA Z1000 can be integrated with both ISO 9001 quality management systems and 14001 environmental management systems to save audit time.
