NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI Hexagon Metrology announced its president and CEO Angus C.F. Taylor will be recognized with an honorary doctorate from the University of Rhode Island at its 2015 Commencement ceremony in May.

The honorary degree is the highest honor bestowed by the university.

Taylor will receive a Doctor of Business to acknowledge his unique contributions to the University and to the State of Rhode Island.

Taylor is a distinguished global leader and has been a passionate advocate for dual language immersion programs while at the helm of Hexagon Metrology. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Central Lancashire, formerly Preston Polytechnic, in the U.K.

Angus started his profession as a project engineer working for a subsidiary of Brown & Sharpe, a prominent Rhode Island manufacturing company (now Hexagon Metrology).

He shaped his career by assuming greater levels of responsibility in both technical and international business roles.

"On behalf of the State of Rhode Island's premier public research institution, we are proud to award Mr. Taylor the Doctor of Business, honoris causa during our 129th Commencement ceremony," said URI Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Donald H. DeHayes who chairs the Honorary Degree Committee. "The University's highest honor is awarded in recognition of Angus' leadership in business and engineering, as well as his extraordinary commitment to advancing language immersion programs within public schools. He has also been a very strong advocate for our College of Engineering's International Engineering Program (IEP), where his forward-thinking global business practices set clear examples for our young engineers," said DeHayes.

"This prestigious honor from the University of Rhode Island is especially meaningful, as I place a very high value on community engagement and educational initiatives to solve workforce challenges," said Taylor. "These results-oriented programs strengthen the local economy and enable global companies to recruit new graduates with 21st century skills to succeed in today's business world. This is a win-win proposition for the people of Rhode Island and far beyond."
