Name Change Reflects Global Scope

The American Society for Testing and Materials, a voluntary standards development organization, has changed its name to ASTM International. The organization's name change reinforces its acceptance of worldwide input for its standards development process, as well as the global application and use of its standards.

Membership exceeds 30,000 technical experts from more than 100 countries. "From its inception, the ASTM method of developing standards has been based on a consensus without borders," says James A. Thomas, president of ASTM International. "Our process ensures that interested individuals and organizations representing industry, academia, consumers and governments alike, all have an equal vote in determining a standard's content."
