Partnership Expands Educational Reach

August 1, 2005

MATERIALS PARK, OH-ASM Materials Education Foundation and the NACE Foundation are working to expand the degree of cooperation between the two educational organizations in promoting increased interest in applied science and education careers and science literacy among the general public.

The NACE Foundation Board voted to give financial and curriculum support to as many as 10 ASM Materials Camps worldwide. These camps are conducted by local ASM chapter volunteers in partnership with major university hosts and academic partners. The NACE Foundation will support a special emphasis on corrosion engineering.

The camps, targeted to high school students and science teachers, include more than 40 hours of laboratory and classroom instruction. The NACE Foundation financial support will provide grants to each camp, classroom demonstrations and experiment kits, and illustrated comic books that can be used by teachers as an educational tool.

"We are honored and delighted with this support and challenge other professional and technical societies to join the NACE Foundation's active support and partnership with this award-winning program," says Tom Stoebe, University of Washington professor and board chair of the ASM Foundation.
