Specimen Marker

August 13, 2007
The Hand-Operated Marker (HOM) is for use with non-contacting video extensometers, allowing marks to be placed on a specimen with consistent size, color density and spacing. Inks will stretch along with the specimen, unlike traditional stick-on paper dots that may move as the material is being strained, which can introduce error. Printed dots provide the advantages of improved edge sharpness, uniformed density across the dot and a smoother-shaped outline than hand-drawn dots. Well-defined printed dots improve dot tracking algorithm performance and allow greater tolerance to video image error sources, such as background color and density variations.
