Valence Congratulates GM and Segway on PUMA

April 9, 2009

AUSTIN, TX - Valence Technology Inc., a U.S.-based manufacturer and supplier of lithium iron magnesium phosphate energy storage solutions, congratulated General Motors and long-time customer Segway on their new personal urban mobility and accessibility vehicle (PUMA) prototype revealed in New York this week.

“Congratulations to General Motors and Segway on the innovative PUMA. GM has found an excellent partner in Segway, which we know because our batteries have powered Segway for about three years and we are proud to be the battery supplier for the PUMA prototype,” says Robert L. Kanode, president and CEO of Valence. “As an industry leader we are well positioned to provide rechargeable batteries to power the PUMA. This is another example of how innovating to meet the need of energy independence can improve the way we live our lives.”

Since 2005 Valence has shipped more than 70 megawatt-hours of energy, or the equivalent of 3,600 electric cars. Valence energy storage solutions can be found in products from Brammo (electric motorcycle), Smith Electric (delivery vehicles), Segway (personal transporters) and PVI (commercial electric trucks in partnership with Renault Trucks).
