SYRACUSE, NY-Gear manufacturer Nixon Gear, a subsidiary of Gear Motions Inc., has been registered to the new ISO 9001: 2008 quality standard, which was introduced in November 2008.
The ISO 9001: 2008 is designed to ensure customer satisfaction with products and/or services and certifies that a company or organization is applying formalized business processes. In order to be registered to the standard, a company or organization must adhere to the outlined requirements.
“The reason to get out ahead on this Standard is to get a jump start on the competition,” says Mark Bechteler, manager of quality and continuous improvement. “We’ve been a ‘process company’ for many years and this registration validates how mature and robust the quality system we use every day to build our high precision gears is already operating.”
As described in the introduction to ISO 9001: 2008, “this Standard promotes the adoption of a process approach. An advantage of the process approach is the ongoing control that it provides over the linkage between individual processes within the system of processes, as well as over their combination and interaction.” This approximately 30-page document also includes a requirement for the continual improvement of a company or organization’s quality management system.
