Braintech Inc. to Open New Multi-Purpose Detroit-Area Office

December 18, 2008

MCLEAN, VA -- Braintech Inc. will continue a strategic reorganization when the company moves into a new Detroit-metro area office on Jan. 2, 2009 that will house its U.S. Engineering, Sales and Development Center and Robotic Laboratory. The new office is located in a “HUB Zone.”

Braintech has hired and is in the process of hiring additional sales executives, as well as application engineers and vision scientists for the new Detroit-metro area office, which will be headed by Chief Sales Officer Jim Dara.

“The opening and staffing of our new office in Detroit is the second phase of a reorganization designed to maximize the commercialization of our technology, touch and better serve our customers, and spread our products among different vertical markets,” Braintech Chief Executive Officer Rick Weidinger explains.

Braintech relocated its corporate headquarters to McLean, VA, in November 2008. The Washington, D.C., suburb is home to the company’s government and defense business and all corporate and commercial activities. The company is looking to hire additional vision scientist and business development personnel for the government and defense business at the Northern Virginia office location.

Braintech will maintain an elite R&D laboratory comprised of the best scientists and software developers in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As part of this reorganization, the company has reallocated certain positions from Vancouver to Michigan and Virginia resulting in a reduction of personnel in Vancouver.

“In order to meet the challenges of a competitive market place and continue to grow and develop products and generate new sales, Braintech has diversified its locations and expanded its operations,” Weidinger says. “We are focused on delivering our technology and products to the marketplace. It required our expansion into the industrial heartland of America. We saw a need to hire people with specific commercialization skills that we did not have before. For example, our Vancouver office functioned only as a laboratory to one robotic manufacturer. Our Detroit robotic laboratory will be working to provide communication solutions for multiple robotic manufacturers as well as machine vision makers and be the hub for our new executive sales team.”
