In the inspection workplace today, hundreds of different metrology applications and software tools exist that, at best, can only marginally work together and share inspection data. In addition, tens of thousands of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and other inspection machines on factory floors across the nation cannot make use of advances in software technology and standards.
The Dimensional Measurement Interface Standard (DMIS) is designed to change that situation. The two-part standard is meant to provide interoperability among different applications and systems: Part 1 focused on off-line programming and results data interchange, while Part 2 advances this into the on-line, real-time realm.
