• In response to the needs of biophotonics customers, Edmund Optics (EO, Barrington, NJ) will introduce 20 new product lines designed to work in the ultraviolet. Products introduced in the Fall 2006 catalog will include UV-NIR triplets, CaF2 Windows, UV laser mirrors, UV filters, UV fixed focal length lenses, UV cameras, UV-VIS CCD spectrometers, as well as new versions of the EO designed and manufactured ReflX objectives. They also will include scientific-grade instrumentation, including spectrometers, photomultiplier tubes, UV light-sources and UV detectors. All the components are designed to integrate easily into prototype and production assemblies.
• Cincinnati Machine (Hebron, KY) has received an order from RTI Claro (Montreal) for a dual-gantry, 5-spindle, 5-axis Wide-Range Profiler. The machine, valued at $7.7 million, will use 10 7,000 rpm, 70-hp gear-driven spindles to simultaneously machine titanium structures for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
