For over 50 years, I’ve been intrigued by what brings some people success. It’s not necessarily intelligence or hard work, because some of those people succeed and others collapse. So…what’s the difference between those who succeed and those who do not?
After all these years of studying and investigating, I’ve come to believe the difference is not a complex formula. Certainly a certain amount of intelligence coupled with the willingness to work hard is a part of the equation. But that’s just not enough – it simply boils down to one magic ingredient. The secret to success is attitude!
People who succeed do not have fewer problems than others. They do not start out with more intelligence, or better parenting, or more money, either. As a matter of fact, there are many success stories of people starting out working against incredible odds. Certainly they utilized their capabilities well with a willingness to "roll up their sleeves" to work hard. However, successful people have a way of looking at things, a way of seeing obstacles as opportunities, and a way of "hanging in there" to make the most of every possibility. This is an attitude of positive affirmation that almost always guarantees success.
I have a friend who’s climbed several mountains. He said in about every climb there comes a time. "When it's been a long day of climbing, and I feel like I can't go any farther, I concentrate on the next three feet. And then the next three feet; and then the next three feet. The next thing I know, I've reached the peak."
Almost all successful people are flexible, hard working, and optimistic. If we sum it up in a word, it is not hard to do: Success is determined by attitude. The good news about attitude is that it can be altered, and we, not anyone else, are in charge of our own attitudes. What’s your attitude? If it’s not going to bring you success, then change it!
Think about it…
