Most people want to be successful but may not be willing to pay the price. How badly do you want to succeed in life? Let's consider the importance of passion and determination in becoming successful.
Most of us have known someone who was afraid to want something so badly for fear that they may be disappointed if they didn't get it. Since we’re human, just maybe you’ve felt this way at times. This is known as negative thinking. This kind of thinking can sabotage your efforts thereby creating a self-fulfilling prophecy, i.e., I thought I would fail and I did.
Many years ago, a young man, who wanted to become a lawyer, wrote to Abraham Lincoln for advice. Lincoln replied, "If you are resolutely determined to make a lawyer of yourself, the thing is more than half done already. Always bear in mind that your resolution to succeed is more important than any other thing."
Lincoln understood that one of the qualities that separates many successful people from extremely talented people who fail, is the sheer force of their will, their passion, and their overwhelming desire.
Tommy Lasorda, the Baseball Hall of Fame manager of the L.A. Dodgers, was fond of saying, "Races are not won by the fastest athletes; fights are not won by the strongest men. But the races are won, and the fights are won, by those who want to win most of all."
It is true that willpower does not always override talent; however, willpower is the factor that causes people of ordinary ability to accomplish extraordinary things. What is your level of willpower and determination? What role could they play in helping you accomplice your goals?
Think about it…
