Maybe you’ve never thought of your roadmap for success being like a personal Goal Projection System (GPS) but it is much the same. Let’s see if we can connect the dots.

Do you really know what you want out of life? If you have trouble answering this question, then maybe the answer is “not really.” If you really did know the answer, it wouldn’t be hard to put into words.

Do you know anyone who seems constantly lost in a fog of confusion? An early mentor called this “meandering through life.” They go one way and then another. Sometimes, they latch on to something as if it's the solution to all their problems, only to toss it aside later and move on to something or someone else. They just don't seem to know what they really want.

Maybe you're somewhat like this yourself. If so, perhaps it’s time to get back in touch with your dreams (goals) but do so in a very focused way. The main point is that you can't achieve your goals if you don't know what they truly are. You can't even set goals, if you don't have any dreams for yourself or your future.

I learned a valuable lesson from this early mentor. Look to the future to determine what need to happen now. I’ve used this throughout much of my working career so maybe it would be helpful to you.

Ask yourself, what would you like the outcomes to be for yourself at the end of one, five, ten and twenty years? Once you have that outcome, what will you see? What will you hear? What will you feel? Be as specific as possible, as you write the answers down.

After this is done which as much honesty as possible, examine current reality. How is it different? Again, be specific and detailed. Finally, list in order the steps you will need to take to move from current reality to your desired end-result.

This process isn’t easy and will take some time but stay with it. You also should revisit this on occasion to ensure you’re staying on tract. Once you have everything recorded, you'll have a roadmap you can use to guide you to a very personal kind of success. Think of it as your personal GPS - your Goal Projection System.

Think about it…
