Navin S. Dedhia of San Jose, CA is retired Quality Management Professional with 40 years of industry experience with IBM and Hitachi GST. Navin, ASQ fellow has published two books and more than 50 technical papers and 100 articles, given more than 75 presentations and taught many quality-related courses. He has been honored with 20 prominent awards, including two ASQ medals (the Distinguished Service Medal and the Lancaster Medal), the Asia Pacific Quality Organization Harrington-Ishikawa Medal, the ASQ Inspection Division’s Lessig Medal, and the ASQ Los Angeles Section’s Simon Collier Quality Award. Recently, he is honored with 2021 Quality Person of the Year by the Quality Magazine.
It is a moment of pride when achieving any kind of credentials such as university degree, driver’s license, or quality certification. No other profession has seen as many transformations as the quality profession. The quality profession grew into many different disciplines of quality. The need to recognize skills of quality profession came into 1960’s. As a result, quality certification activities started in late 1960s became main thrust of the quality profession credentials. Over the years quality certification activities grew into many other aspects of quality discipline. Certification proves attainment of a certain level of knowledge for a specific job. Quality certification is achieved with understanding and knowing the underlying concepts in the body of knowledge. Attendees will learn in this session certification history, certification process and certification benefits and value it brings to the organization.
