THORNWOOD, N.Y.—Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC announces that it has received ISO 9001:2008 quality management system certification for product marketing, sales, service and support for its high precision optomechanical instruments. The ISO 9001 certification attests to ZEISS’ commitment to implementing best business practices for quality management in the distribution, sales and support of ZEISS products manufactured around the world. ZEISS also achieved ISO 9001 certification for a complete range of corporate services, including finance, human resources, information technology, quality, legal, regulatory affairs, and trade compliance.

As an importer of precision equipment, sales and service has a huge impact on the company’s business, and the ISO 9001 certification gives current and prospective customers’ confidence that ZEISS is focused on superior performance and continuous improvement. While ZEISS was already known for its robust quality management systems, achieving the certification will make complying with customer quality management surveys and other requirements easier and more efficient.

The ISO 9001:2008 certification was achieved following a rigorous audit conducted by UL DQS Inc., an internationally known provider of quality management certifications. The detailed audit covered quality management systems, management responsibility, resource management, product realization, and measurement, analysis and improvement. The actual certification audit took place in November 2013. With only minimal findings, the certification was granted in December 2013, and will be in effect until 2016.

Thomas A. Fontanazza, Director of Quality & Process Excellence for Carl Zeiss, Inc., said that continuous improvement was the key reason for embarking on the ISO 9001 certification process.

“When qualifying new vendors, customers want to ensure you can deliver products to them consistently. We used the quality management certification process to establish a baseline to measure performance and drive improvements, documenting systems, policies, and procedures, and ensuring that they are followed consistently," said Fontanazza.“Unlike many companies that only certify customer-facing functions, ZEISS also chose to seek ISO 9001 certification for corporate services, to demonstrate that we have established best business practices across the board, from human resources to order processing.”
