Management Principles for Digitizing Your Quality Management System
The world has changed and organizations of all shapes and sizes are now grappling with an uncertain future. To prepare for this uncertainty, savvy businesses are embracing digital tools and technology to support of ongoing operations. From installing early detection mechanisms to tracking product defects to restarting workplaces to rethinking how to protect operations from future disruptions, technology has an important role to play.
The chaos confronting quality today has three components – one is the historical (and long-standing) disintegration of the profession itself as it has become modernized over time and has not kept up with the reality of today’s workplace and work processes. This has become exacerbated by two concurrent trends which converged into a “perfect storm” in 2020: COVID-19 showed people they could work remotely in virtual teams while digitalization has shown business leaders that “hands-off” systems can be used to manage production processes. The net effect is that workers will need to be retrained and empowered to embrace this digital age and acquire competence in new technologies.
