FOND DU LAC, WI-Sheffield Measurement Inc., a division of Hexagon Metrology North America, acquires the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) product division of The L.S. Starrett Co. Only Starrett's coordinate measuring machine product line is included in the acquisition.

Sheffield Measurement assumes all customer service, support and spare parts sales for the Starrett machines currently in the field. Sheffield Measurement also gains all designs, and new and used machine inventory associated with the Starrett CMM business.

"Sheffield's acquisition of Starrett's CMM division provides Starrett a smooth transition from the CMM business and ensures that their loyal CMM customers are supported in the future," says Bill Gruber, chief executive officer of Hexagon Metrology North American. "Hexagon Metrology, and Sheffield Measurement in particular, was a good fit in the sense that we have an immediate software migration path for these customers using PC-DMIS, combined with an agile, customer focused service group," he continues.

According to Gruber, Sheffield Measurement has no plans to continue the manufacture of Starrett's machines beyond the remaining inventory of new and used machines that were acquired in the deal.
