SOUTHFIELD, MI-The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) has announced that the Dimensional Mark Up Language (DML) has been updated. Developed in partnership with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), DML is a common global language specification for metrology that allows interface of computer-aided design (CAD) software, inspection program planning and execution, and coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and inspection analysis tools.

The DML was updated to meet current industry needs. This revision provides an explanation of the changes from DML Version 2.1 to Version 3.0. Revised DML schema in XML format accompany the updated document.

The goal of this standard is to reduce product development cycle time and manufacturing costs by achieving interoperability of software and hardware components used in automated metrology. By using DML for interoperable data, suppliers and OEMs stand to save millions by eliminating redundant costs and reducing delivery and design-to-production times.
