Automatic Rockwell Hardness Testing

A Rockwell hardness tester for automatically performing hardness traverse sequences on larger and unmounted test samples is available. An advantage of the Rockwell test compared to other test methods is that the system has less mounting and less surface preparation requirements than systems using other test methods for traverses in applications such as weld testing or effective case depth measurement. The system uses a Versitron Rockwell tester to make the indentations. The Versitron can test samples that may deflect or settle slightly when test loads are applied, thereby eliminating the need for special fixturing on a wide range of test samples. The system enables applications such as dual traverses for welding or staggered test traverses for shallower effective case depth testing. A computer is used to display the video input for positioning, initiate the testing and control the test positioning through motorized X/Y tables. User-controlled setup files can handle an unlimited number of test sequences.

Three-Way Measuring System

The FTP 130 is a three-way measuring system that measures the flatness, thickness and parallelism of both 1- and 2- sided parts. Up to two different functions can be used simultaneously to measure parts as thin as 0.20 millimeter or as thick as 200 millimeters. System components to measure larger objects are available on request. An analog-digital display is included that eliminates inaccuracies. The operator also can record results and produce analysis reports, which can help with meeting ISO and SPC production requirements. The system components include digital amplifier with analog-digital display; heavy-duty gage stand base; 130-millimeter square hardened steel anvil (grooved face); and two inductive probes (one thickness/parallel, one flatness).

USB Cameras

A family of intelligent machine vision cameras with a USB 2.0 interface is available. The cameras are equipped with a host of software features designed to make machine vision easier to implement and control, while the USB interface provides a high-speed link for data downloads. The cameras are available in four resolution and speed combinations ranging from 752 by 480 pixel at 87 fps to 2,560 by 1,920 pixel at 6 fps. Lower resolution cameras are available in monochrome or color versions while the higher resolution cameras are only available in color. Each camera has a progressive-scan CMOS sensor, software-based exposure control, C-mount lens fittings and a USB 2.0 interface. The cameras all have the same 34 by 32 by 27.4-millimeter dimensions, allowing operators to interchange cameras without system modifications.

Digital Photo Stand

The Sentry is a digital photo stand with a 16-mega-pixel camera using telecentric lenses and capturing images of parts up to a size of 4 inches. Parts are measured and defects found using software-based pattern recognition and image processing per the customer’s specific requirements. In a manufacturing floor or quality control laboratory, the unit is designed to take critical measurements or perform defect detection on medical devices, electronic components or other small parts. It is ideal for the inspection of multi-lumen tubing, IC packaging, or surgical staples and clips. The Sentry’s array format is 3,500 by 2,300 pixels, with a 35-millimeter by 23-millimeter actual sensor size. It has lenses that span a magnification range of 0.3X up to 10X, allowing the machine to handle a range of part sizes from 3.5 by 2.3 millimeters with a 0.3-micron precision up to 117 by 77 millimeter with an 8.3-micron precision.
