Survice Opens Metrology Center

BELCAMP, MD, September 25-The Survice Engineering Co., a Maryland-based small business specializing in systems engineering support for the military and other customers, held the grand opening of its new Survice Metrology Center (SMC) in Belcamp, Maryland. The opening was part of the company's first annual Metrology Tech Expo Day, which featured seminars and demonstrations on various types of the latest dimensional measurement equipment. Metrology experts and other technical professionals from across the U.S. and Canada participated.

The SMC, located in the heart of the Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor (also called the Chesapeake Tech Corridor), houses a suite of laser scanning and metrology equipment and an experienced staff who provide a range of integrated metrology tools and solutions, including component inspection, 3-D modeling, reverse engineering and custom application development. This collection of state-of-the-art equipment and comprehensive services in a single facility is unique not only to the region but to the country as a whole.

The SMC ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by approximately 200 people. The event featured remarks from Harford County Executive David Craig, presentations of congratulatory certificates from U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski and Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, and the presentation of a certificate of appreciation from the Smithsonian Institute for the center's recent assistance on a special research project.

"This is an exciting day for Survice," said CEO Jim Foulk. "The center represents a great opportunity to enhance our services to our current customers and expand our offerings to many new customers." Survice's current metrology customers include military and commercial organizations, including power-generation facilities and historical museums.

In establishing the SMC, SURVICE has partnered with Metris USA, an international metrology equipment supplier. Through this partnership, Metris plans to use the facility as its East Coast Metrology Center, where it will demonstrate equipment and support sales.
