The Armanda is a multi-technology, X-Y robotic arm designed to perform nondestructive assessments of metallic and composite structures for military and civil aerospace industries. The system consists of a lightweight, portable arm that incorporates conventional ultrasonic, advanced guided ultrasonic waves, eddy current, pulsed eddy current and time-of-flight diffraction technologies. Because of its flexible rail fixture, the system has the ability to scan contoured and edge surfaces and can operate in vertical as well as horizontal orientations. A suction-cup support system helps secure the scanner to the inspected part. In addition, the system is equipped with a spring-loaded Z-axis, which improves the accuracy of transducer positioning and ensures constant coupling between the probe and the inspected part.
