HATFIELD, PA-Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI) is wrapping up its 20th birthday celebration. LTI began doing business in 1976 as Carson NDT, and switched its name to Laboratory Testing Inc. in 1984. In the process, the company expanded the services it offered.

Company founder Robert W. McVaugh Sr. started Carson NDT to provide magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, X-ray and ultrasonic inspection services. He expanded the company to include hydrostatic pressure testing, chemical analysis, dimensional measurement, metallography, mechanical testing, metrology, specimen machining, failure analysis and materials engineering. As LTI's nondestructive testing and materials testing services have increased, so too have the number of employees-from a small shop to 90 employees today.

In 1989, LTI was accredited by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, and in 1992 by the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program. Today, three of McVaugh's children own the company.
