The vice president of quality assurance at Bridgestone/Firestone (Nashville, TN), Robert J. Wyant, retired after 36 years with the company. Stephen W. Brooks will fill the position. Wyant will continue to serve as consultant to the company.

During Wyant's tenure, the Decatur, IL, plant became the center of controversy over tire tread separations that were linked to crashes that caused at least 271 deaths in the United States. Since a federal investigation began in August 2000, Bridgestone/Firestone has recalled more than 10 million tires.
