Every Thread Counts: EyeVision Automated Inspection
A damaged, incomplete or contaminated thread can quickly lead to assembly problems, rejected parts or unstable connections. Especially in automated production, thread quality must be checked reliably and repeatably. With EyeVision Software, thread inspection can be automated directly in the production line - fast, flexible and without contact.
EyeVision can inspect internal and external threads using industrial cameras and image processing tools. The software evaluates the thread structure directly in the camera image and checks the relevant features according to defined tolerances. EyeVision inspects thread presence, usable thread length, pitch and spacing, the number of visible thread turns, missing or interrupted sections, largest gaps and irregular thread segments. The software can also detect burrs, contamination, damaged edges or particles in the thread area and compare all results with predefined limits for a clear OK/NOK decision.
In the shown EyeVision application, several measurement values are calculated and displayed, including gap count, thread length, largest gap and longest segment. These values can be used not only for defect detection, but also for process monitoring, documentation and quality assurance.
A major advantage of EyeVision is the flexible configuration. Inspection programs can be created directly in the graphical user interface using drag-and-drop commands — without complex programming. Thresholds, inspection areas, tolerance values and result outputs can be adapted to different parts, thread geometries and production requirements.
For manufacturers, this means more stable quality and less manual inspection effort. Instead of relying only on random checks or mechanical gauges, EyeVision enables automated 100% inspection of thread features directly in the production process.
