Over the last decade imaging system designers have faced a new set of challenges. Ten years ago the performance of standard camera lenses was sufficient to get optimum performance out of the available sensors.
Many inspection applications require very precise measurements. While software algorithms, via sub pixel interpolation, can provide very fine measurements, they cannot provide accurate or repeatable results if there is any variation in the image created. The choice of optics for a given application can mean the difference between the success and failure of a measurement system.
Vision system integration has come a long way. With increased processing power, more powerful algorithms, and lighting and optics designed for more demanding requirements, more applications can be solved today than ever before.
