To be successful, we must be able to see the bigger picture, but we also need to be able to manage the small details. Attention to details and focused follow up typically means the difference between success and failure.

Of course, the “big things” do matter for they are what give us clear direction and focus. The “little things” matter too, and maybe more in the long run, for they are what work together to create and maintain our focus on the bigger picture. If we think the big things are beyond our reach, then we won't truly realize the power of our abilities.

If we think that the little things are beneath us, then we will continually be frustrated by our progress, or lack of progress. We need the confidence to envision bold goals, and the humility to get our hands dirty in order to reach them. We need to keep the big picture firmly in our minds, while giving our attention to all the little details that will get us there.

We need clear direction to our efforts and give sustained effort to our visions. It is a time-tested formula that leads consistently to success. I'm reminded by something Vince Lombardi, the NFL football legend once said, "If you really want something, you can have it if you are willing to pay the price. And the price means that you have to work better and harder than the next guy."

It is persistence that helps us succeed at what we strive to accomplish, and success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after everyone else has let go.

Think about it…
