VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA—The emerging calibration services industry will continue to experience growth from 2003 through 2007.

According to a market research report by The Signal Group, the growth in calibration services will be driven by the increasing adoption of quality management systems, such as ISO 9000, and by the increased use of measurement and sensing technology.

“The calibration services industry has seen growth rates in excess of 15% per year in many countries,” says Greg Powell, a partner in The Signal Group and the principle author of the report.

The study analyzes the calibration services market faced by the different types of calibration services providers, including test-equipment makers, commercial vendors and in-house calibration labs. While growth over the next five years is predicted, this growth rate may not be maintained in all markets. However, even if growth in the adoption of quality management systems slows in one country, growth in calibration services will be maintained and in many cases exceeded in other countries.

“The commercial sector will benefit heavily from a continuing trend to outsource calibration services and the management of test and measurement equipment,” says Powell.
