TURIN, ITALY-Fiat Automotive will construct an new four-cylinder turbocharged engine for its Alfa Romeo brand that can be used for either transverse or longitudinal orientation, making it applicable for front-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive cars. Displacement for the new is 1.8 liters but it will generate as much as 300 horsepower, the company says.
The turbocharged four-cylinder will be built in Fiat’s Pratolo Serra plant in Italy starting in 2013 and will be compliant with Euro VI and U.S. emissions laws. The company plans a 2013 timeframe for the reintroduction of the Alfa Romeo brand in the United States, which remains the brand’s “primary objective,” Harald J.
