NEW ORLEANS, LA –TheCoordinate Metrology Society(CMS), the membership association for measurement professionals, will host its third Measurement Study, as well as two other conference events at its 28th annualCoordinate Metrology Systems Conference (CMSC), July 16-20, 2012, at The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans, LA. The Measurement Study will focus on the importance of practical testing. Data collection activity is coordinated by the National Physical Laboratory (UK), assisted by members of the CMS Certification Committee, and sponsored by The Metrologic Group. In the past two years, more than 300 conference attendees have participated in the data collection activity. Metrology is the science of measurement, and professionals in this field work in diverse industries such as aerospace, automotive, power generation, and more.

The Measurement Study results will be analyzed by the CMS Certification Committee and used to support the first industry-recognized, level-one personnel certification in portable 3-D metrology, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012. The organization also plans to deploy a level-two equipment-specific certification that would include laser trackers, area scanners, laser radars, hand-held scanners and data post processing.

Other CMSC activities include a 5 Billion Micron Fun Run/Walk to be held on Wednesday, July 18, 6 a.m.-7:30 a.m. at the New Orleans City Park. Innovmetric Software Inc. will sponsor this year’s event. Participants will be transported to the park from the hotel. More than 70 CMSC attendees participated in the event last year.

The CMSC is also collaborating with theNational Marrow Donor Programto host a donor registry drive at this year’s conference on Wednesday, July 18, 11am – 4pm, in the Roosevelt Ballroom. Thousands of patients need a bone marrow donor who can make their life-saving transplant possible. The CMS is proud to support this worthy cause.
