MCLEAN, VA —AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology is proud to announce that Gregg Fleisher, chief academic officer, National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI), will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Smartforce Student Summit at the International Manufacturing Technology Show 2014 (IMTS). NMSI prepares students for success by building strong foundations in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through programs that transform
teaching, schools, and education in the United States.

IMTS is the largest industrial trade show in the Americas, drawing more than 100,000 visitors and featuring 1,900 exhibitors. The Smartforce Student Summit is held in conjunction with IMTS 2014 and gives students a first-hand, interactive view of manufacturing technology in addition to promoting careers
in the industry.

“The Smartforce Student Summit at IMTS introduces educators, students and parents to exciting new innovations in manufacturing technology,” said Greg Jones, Vice President, Smartforce Development, AMT. “The Student Summit is designed to allow young people to interact with today’s manufacturing industry so that they can translate their STEM education into real-world results within high-tech and highvalue careers.”

NMSI continues to transform high schools into centers of college readiness through the NMSI College Readiness Program – now in more than 550 schools in 22 states across the country. The average first year increase in the number of passing AP math, science and English scores at NMSI schools is 72 percent – 10 times the national average. Those results are sustained throughout the program’s three-year duration. By 2025, the program is expected to increase the number of students passing AP math and AP science exams from 440,000 in 2013 to 1.5 million.

“These young Americans will be the next innovators of the future,” said Gregg Fleisher, Chief Academic Officer at NMSI. “The Smartforce Student Summit at IMTS 2014 will help us motivate students interested in STEM to seek out challenging opportunities in the classroom to prepare them for college and the
workforce.”

The Smartforce Student Summit at IMTS 2014 will be held from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sept. 8-13, 2014 at McCormick Place, Chicago, Ill.
