PROVIDENCE, RI – Mahr Federal's Alexander N. Tabenkin was presented with the ASME 2014 Dedicated Service Award for Standardization and Testing during the ASME B46 meeting on October 24, 2014, at NIST Headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD. Tabenkin was recognized for his outstanding service to the Society, based on his contributions and dedication spanning over twenty-three years in the field of surface metrology.

According to ASME, "The Dedicated Service Award was established in 1983 to honor unusual dedicated voluntary service to the Society marked by outstanding performance, demonstrated effective leadership, prolonged and committed service, devotion, enthusiasm and faithfulness."

"Alex is one of the nation's foremost experts on surface finish and geometry gaging and the development of surface finish and geometry standards," said Tony Picone, President of Mahr Federal. "He has also been an extremely valuable member of the Mahr Federal team and we are all gratified to see Alex recognized for his expertise and his dedication over these many years."

Born and educated in Russia before emigrating to the US, Tabenkin is a graduate of the Machine Tool Institute, Moscow, USSR, and was formerly a Senior Research Engineer in metrology for 14 years at the National R&D Center in Moscow. Tabenkin was a Product Manager, Geometry & Surface Gaging Products, for Mahr Federal since 1977, and then Consultant with Mahr Federal until retiring in 2008.

Tabenkin is the author of many technical articles and several metrology books published in both the US and Russia. He has participated in dozens of seminars and conferences, and is a member of the ASME B46 Committee on Surface Finish and the ISO TC-57 Committee for Metrology and Properties of Surfaces.

Tabenkin is the second Mahr Federal employee to win the ASME Dedicated Service Award, the late Fred Parsons having won it in 2006.
