Vision guided robotics (VGR) is a key technology that is a hallmark of flexible manufacturing, driving productivity and efficiency over a wide range of applications. Once called the “holy grail” of automation, 3D bin picking has demonstrated continued advances over broad use cases that place it firmly in the realm of practical implementation in industry. As with any VGR implementation, machine vision is at the heart of the functionality of the system and the growth of 3D bin picking mirrors that of 3D imaging technologies.

In this webinar we will describe 3D bin picking and discuss its recent evolution towards a mature technology. Topics will include an overview of technologies, keys to success, and pitfalls to be aware of in implementation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the fundamentals of vision-guided robotics (VGR) and its role in enabling flexible manufacturing.
  • Describe the evolution of 3D robotic bin picking from a challenging concept to a practical industrial solution.
  • Identify the key technologies, success factors, and best practices that support effective 3D bin picking implementation.
  • Recognize common pitfalls and challenges in deploying machine vision systems for bin picking and strategies to address them.
