NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Hexagon Metrology has announced it will highlight measurement automation trends at the 2014 IMTS (International Manufacturing Technology Show) Conference Sessions.

Scott Everling, a senior consultant from Hexagon Metrology’s Custom Solutions Group, will share his expertise on the topic “Measurement Systems to Optimize Automation Processes,” on Tuesday, September 9, from 1:15 p.m. - 2:10 p.m. in Room W-195, West Building, Level 1. The presentation will provide an overview of new opportunities and emerging trends resulting from the integration of measurement technologies with factory automation devices such as industrial robots. Hexagon Metrology will exhibit an extensive line of 3D measurement solutions in Booth 5202 at IMTS 2014, McCormick Place, Chicago, IL, from September 8-13, 2014.

Manufacturers have effectively deployed high-precision measuring devices into the production environments of industries such as aerospace and automotive. As automation has been increasingly applied to part handling and assembly tasks, opportunities have emerged to integrate measurement technologies with industrial robots. There are two areas of innovation in this sector. The first application utilizes a robot as a carrier for a device to perform automated inspection. The second application employs a metrology device as a method to improve the absolute accuracy of a robotic system, allowing high-precision guidance for automated assembly applications.

This informative presentation will explore real-world case studies, the application of each technique to specific production processes, and the resulting improvement in productivity and efficiency. Attendees are invited to participate in the question and answer session following the afternoon presentation.

In Booth 5202, Hexagon Metrology will also feature their newest automation offering for the automotive industry, the 360° Smart Inline Measurement Solution (SIMS). This fully automated, high-speed system is designed to accelerate production launches and monitor quality. A huge step toward the digital factory of tomorrow, this new solution provides fresh insights into quality control for the automotive community of OEMs and tier-one suppliers.
