Michelle: I wanted to talk more about education. And I know you've been in the field a while. So, to start off with, is there anything different you've seen with education these days, something that students are more interested in or you've seen with your research?
Rochelle: Well, post Covid, I have experienced how influential what I call assisted technology is in the space where I am an adjunct professor. And so that consists of various AI tools. I won't name a brand because I don't want to leave anyone out or appear to be endorsing one or the other, but I like to just coin it assisted technology and how that can enhance or hinder one's educational journey.
So, that is one change that I have observed and I have postured myself as an instructor to, number one, be aware of such technologies and also be aware of how they can be used to enhance the overall education experience while still promoting the use of those, what I call fundamentals, such as thinking about how you want to best enhance your education using those technologies so that when you are using them, you're doing so responsibly.
And you are, again, enhancing the experience and not causing any hindrances that could derail the education experience later on.
Michelle: Can you think of an example of a time you thought someone used it very well?
Rochelle: Yes. One way that I have observed it being used very effectively is in writing. I serve on a thesis committees in addition to teaching some of the Master of Science and Quality Assurance courses. One way that the students have found the assisted technologies helpful is when looking for research studies on their topic. So again, let's be clear, technology is not new to any of us, it is evolving.
I think the change is that it is evolving so fast and that a lot of products and platforms are so readily available. And unless you seek out understanding the benefits and the limitations, you could surprise yourself in the midst instead of just taking it and saying, hey, what does this button do?
