NASA has finalized the contract for the initial crew module of the agency’s Gateway lunar orbiting outpost.

Today 3D measurement is a common sight, not only in the quality field, but also for design, reverse engineering and movies. 

“What’s trending?” is a phrase that has become ubiquitous in our social and business consciousness. A trend is a prevailing tendency that might (or might not) have long-term implications. 

Surface finish affects how a part will fit, reflect light, transmit heat, wear, distribute lubrication, accept coatings and more. The right finish should ultimately be determined by the part’s function and the engineering requirements of the application.

Surfaces are designed into products to reduce friction, “store” lubricants, provide a high luster finish or be the proper texture to hold paint (but not show the actual surface of the paint). 

To choose the right 3D surface measurement tool, an engineer must carefully consider the size of the object, the speed of the scan and analysis, and a customer’s tolerance requirements.
