Many stylus manufacturers will tell you that custom disks are the designs most often requested for custom fabrication quotes. Like handprints, it seems as though each disk stylus is unique. 

Many use the phrase surface metrology interchangeably with roughness measurement, but it actually has a much wider meaning that includes measurement and quantification of periodicity; geometry; size; shape and number of discrete features and shapes; height or spacing based statistics; etc.

Be it point measurements for exceptional accuracy or the scanning of certain materials, it’s important to have the right stylus system for any measuring task.

Form is a relatively easy thing to measure in many senses. In the simplest manner, form measurement involves a probe or stylus being moved along an ideal circular or linear path to gather data on the probe movements relative to that ideal geometry.
