One of the most fundamental decisions in mechanical design is selecting which material a part should be produced from. Often, a variety of factors will influence the success of a part.

In 2010 the ASTM F42 Committee on Additive Manufacturing (AM) created the terminology for an industry which up to then was referred to as rapid prototyping (RP). Parts made using the various rapid prototyping technologies were often used as design concept models, fit check mock-ups and function test articles. 

Many stylus manufacturers will tell you that custom disks are the designs most often requested for custom fabrication quotes. Like handprints, it seems as though each disk stylus is unique.
